A 1926 book set in ancient Babylon
The idea was popularized by George S. Clason's "The Richest Man in Babylon," first handed out as pamphlets by banks and insurers in the 1920s. Through a fictional Babylonian named Arkad, it taught readers to save at least a tenth of everything they earn before spending the rest.
