LESSON 3 · Your Brain on Money

Vanishing Raises

You get a $5,000 raise. Within three months, you can't figure out where it went. Better lunches, a nicer gym, upgraded subscriptions, a few more Ubers instead of the bus. None of it felt extravagant. That's lifestyle creep — your spending silently expanding to match your income.

The trap is that each upgrade is small and "reasonable." Nobody goes from a Honda to a Porsche overnight. But a slightly nicer apartment here, premium streaming there, organic everything at the grocery store — it compounds.
