Childhood Clues

Think about your family dinner table. Was money discussed openly, or was it taboo? Did your parents fight about bills? Did one parent spend while the other hoarded? These patterns left marks. A kid who heard "we can't afford that" over and over may grow up either hyper-frugal or rebelliously extravagant.

Neither reaction is rational — both are emotional responses to the same childhood experience. Studies show that people who grew up during economic hardship are more likely to hoard cash and avoid investing, even when it costs them long-term growth.
