Not Investment Money

Your emergency fund is not an investment. It's insurance. Don't put it in stocks, crypto, or anything that can drop 30% right when you need it most. The whole point is that it's there, fully intact, the moment life hits you. If the market crashes the same week you lose your job, that cash has to be exactly where you left it.

The flat tire test: if your tire blows out tomorrow, can you handle it without a credit card and without asking anyone for money? If yes, your fund is working. If no, keep building. This money won't make you rich, but it keeps you from going backward — and that's the foundation everything else is built on.
