LESSON 2 · Smart Money Habits That Stick

Pause Before Purchase

The 24-hour rule is brutally simple: before making any unplanned purchase, wait 24 hours. Don't buy it today. Sleep on it. If you still want it tomorrow with the same intensity, go for it. Most of the time, you won't. The urge passes, and you've saved money without any sacrifice.

This works because impulse purchases are driven by your amygdala — the emotional, reactive part of your brain. It screams "BUY NOW" in the moment. Waiting 24 hours gives your prefrontal cortex time to catch up and judge the purchase calmly.
