LESSON 3 · Real Estate Decoded

The Emotional Trap

Buying a home is the largest purchase most people ever make, and it's wrapped in powerful emotions. You walk into a place, start imagining your life there, and suddenly you're willing to bid, say, $40,000 over asking.

Real estate agents know this. Sellers stage homes to trigger it. Bidding wars make it worse.

Set your maximum price before you start looking, and write it down. When you're standing in a sun-drenched kitchen picturing dinner parties, your brain will look for reasons to bust that budget. Don't let it. There's always another house, but your financial foundation is harder to rebuild once an emotional purchase cracks it.
