Your story formula means nothing if you cannot adjust mid-answer. Watch for engagement signals: leaning forward, note-taking, follow-ups. These tell you to keep going and add more detail. Crossed arms or wandering eyes? Wrap up faster.

Pause briefly after your key point. If the interviewer jumps in — great, you have sparked a conversation. If the silence starts to feel long, offer a follow-up point or move on.

Treat each answer like a conversation, not a monologue. The best interviews feel like two smart people solving a puzzle together, not a performance.
