The Final Polish

Before you hit send, read your cover letter out loud. Clunky sentences reveal themselves instantly; smooth ones flow like spoken English. If you stumble at any line, rewrite it until you don't.

Then check one detail by hand: the company name and the hiring manager's name, spelled exactly right. A typo there undoes every bit of customization you worked for — it tells the reader you copied and pasted.
