Handling Pushback

When your manager pushes back, body language matters as much as words. Stay calm, hold eye contact, and lean slightly forward — not back. A defensive posture signals insecurity.

If they say "you are not ready," respond with curiosity: "I appreciate that. Can you walk me through the specific gaps you see?" Then listen and take notes — it shows you are coachable.

If they say "the timing is not right," ask: "When would be the right time, and what should I focus on until then?" Get a specific timeline and clear criteria. Vague pushback with no plan is a red flag.
