LESSON 1 · Network Without Being Awkward

Listen Harder the Second Time

When a dormant contact responds and you book the call, listen at twice the intensity. Do not spend the call catching them up on your life. Ask what they are building, what has changed, what is hard, and where they are headed.

You are rebuilding context. The more current context you gather, the more useful you can be later. Send one follow-up after the call that proves you heard them: an article, intro, resource, or thoughtful note tied to what they said.

For contacts you have already warmed up, a light touch each quarter can keep the relationship alive. Over time, some people will reciprocate and a few may turn into real opportunities. The point is rhythm, not a magic conversion rate.
