LESSON 5 · The Freelance Leap

Managing Energy, Not Just Time

Your day job gets your best hours. Your freelance work gets what's left — unless you protect your energy deliberately, calendar-first, before any of it disappears into meetings.

Reserve creative tasks for your highest-energy windows. Batch admin work for low-energy periods. Exercise, sleep, and nutrition matter more than ever when running two professional lives at once. Consider taking PTO for occasional freelance sprints — a single focused day accomplishes more than two weeks of evening sessions, and lets you return to the day job genuinely refreshed. That discipline protects both incomes instead of letting one exhaust the other.
