The Cost of Perfect
Perfectionism is not free. It extracts a real toll:
- Time: Perfectionists spend far longer on tasks than satisficers (people who aim for "good enough"), often for only marginal gains.
- Mental health: Perfectionism is strongly linked to anxiety, depression, and burnout.
- Creativity: Fear of imperfection kills creative risk-taking. Perfectionists self-censor before ideas fully form.
- Relationships: Perfectionist standards applied to others breed resentment and isolation.
