Drills vs. Direct Practice
Meta-learners separate direct practice (doing the real thing) from drills (isolating specific parts). Both matter. Direct practice ensures the skill transfers to real situations. Drills let you focus hard on a weak sub-skill without the overhead of the full activity.
The ideal mix shifts over time. Beginners need more direct practice for context and motivation. Intermediates gain more from targeted drills. Advanced learners cycle back to direct practice to blend refined sub-skills into fluid performance.
