LESSON 1 · Goals That Actually Happen

Combine for Maximum Power

The frameworks are not mutually exclusive. Many high-performing organizations set OKRs at the team level and then break Key Results down into SMART goals for individuals. The OKR provides direction and ambition. The SMART goals provide the concrete daily and weekly actions that drive progress.

For example, a team OKR might pair the Objective "Deliver a world-class onboarding experience" with the Key Result "Reduce new user drop-off from 40% to 15%." A supporting individual SMART goal: "Redesign the welcome email sequence with 5 new templates by March 15th." The cascade from vision to action is seamless.
