Your Opening is a Promise
The first sentence you speak sets a contract with your listener. It tells them whether the next few minutes will be worth their attention.

Frame your opener around the listener's world, not yours. Instead of "Let me tell you about myself," try "You have probably noticed that..." That shift moves the spotlight to the person deciding whether to keep listening. Listener-centered openings usually beat self-centered ones because they start with relevance.
