LESSON 2 · First Impressions That Last

Build Your Opening Toolkit

A simple system you can build once and reuse:

  • Write three go-to openers — one question, one story, one stat — and memorize them
  • Practice the first 15 seconds more than anything else you prepare
  • Record and review to catch filler words and throat-clearing
  • Match the hook to the audience — data people want stats, creative people want stories
  • Land the line, then pause — a confident pause signals control

The aim is not to sound scripted. It is to have a reliable launch pad, so your brain can focus on connecting instead of scrambling for words.
