LESSON 2 · Small Talk Mastery

The Approach Window

Timing matters more than your opening line. There is a brief approach window when someone is most receptive: right after they finish a conversation, check their phone, or scan the room. These micro-moments signal availability.

The biggest mistake is approaching someone deep in conversation or visibly focused on something. Even a great opener fails when the timing is wrong. Instead, position yourself nearby and wait for the natural break. People notice you before you speak, and your calm patience reads as confidence.
