Thread pulling means grabbing onto one interesting detail in someone's answer and pulling it deeper.

Aim to pull three or four threads in a good conversation. Each pull takes it one layer deeper, from surface facts to opinions to emotions. That progression is what makes a conversation feel meaningful rather than mechanical.
