The Silence Swap

The strongest replacement for a filler is silence. A clean pause where an "um" used to live sounds deliberate and in control. Your audience reads that gap as thinking. They read "um, uh" as second-guessing.

Here is the catch: a pause feels far longer to you than to anyone listening. What feels like an unbearable three-second silence in your head often lands as a natural beat to your audience. The gap usually feels bigger from the inside.
