Meaning Check in Practice

The meaning check combines all three techniques at the right moment. After someone finishes a complex thought, pause and say: "Let me make sure I understand. You're saying [content], and that feels [emotion], because [meaning]. Am I getting that right?"

This single sentence does more for a relationship than hours of advice-giving. It proves deep listening, names what the speaker might not have articulated, and creates mutual understanding before any discussion of solutions.
