LESSON 4 · Words That Win

Repetition as Power

Anaphora - repeating a phrase at the start of successive sentences - is the backbone of King's "I Have a Dream" speech, where he opened line after line with the same words, each repetition building intensity. Churchill did the same: "We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets."

You can use anaphora in any presentation:

  • "We need speed. We need clarity. We need commitment."
  • "This is about our customers. This is about our future. This is about doing what's right."

The pattern creates momentum that is almost impossible to resist.
