Words That Build Alliances
"We" is the most powerful word in corporate communication. It creates shared ownership and reduces defensiveness. "I think we should change direction" feels collaborative. "You need to change direction" feels like an attack. Pair "we" with future-tense language.

Build a personal substitution list: "suggest" → "recommend", "try" → "commit", "think" → "know", "hopefully" → "by [date]". Keep it by your monitor for two weeks. Emails get faster replies, requests turn into approvals, and your ideas feel weightier.
