Feet Add Context

Former FBI agent Joe Navarro argues that feet and lower-body posture are often managed less consciously than the face. That makes them useful context, not a truth machine. Feet angled toward the exit during a conversation may suggest a desire to leave, discomfort, or simple body positioning.

Start observing in low-stakes environments — coffee shops, meetings you're not in, TV interviews with the sound off. Read someone's baseline first: how they sit, gesture, and look around when nothing is at stake. Then watch for the moment that behavior shifts.
