LESSON 4 · Detect Deception

Pressure Backfires

Interrogation-style questioning can trigger defensiveness, making people more likely to protect themselves than explain clearly. When someone feels threatened, truth competes with self-protection.

Before asking hard questions, invest in rapport. Find common ground, show real curiosity, use their name, and match their energy level. Better truth-seeking makes honesty feel safer than continued evasion.
