The fastest path to understanding is analogy — connecting an unfamiliar concept to a familiar one. "DNA is like a recipe book" teaches more in six words than a paragraph about nucleotide sequences.

The most common clarity killer is the compound sentence that packs several ideas into one breath. Use the grandmother test: if your grandmother could follow it without any industry knowledge, you have achieved true clarity.
