LESSON 1 · Everyday Expressions & Idioms
Forget Dictionary Idioms
Many idiom lists teach you phrases like "it's raining cats and dogs." Native speakers rarely use that in ordinary conversation. The idioms that actually matter are the ones you hear in meetings, texts, and shows again and again.

The trick to learning idioms is not memorizing definitions. It is hearing them in context often enough that they stick. When someone says "let's play it by ear," they mean "let's decide later." You did not need to decode each word. You just needed to hear it five times in natural situations.
