LESSON 4 · Travel English Survival Kit

Emergencies Have a Language

When something goes wrong in a foreign country, your language skills shrink. Stress narrows your vocabulary to whatever you practiced most.

The good news: emergency English is simple by design. Doctors, police, and emergency operators are trained to work with non-native speakers. They expect short, clear sentences. "I need help." "I'm lost." "It hurts here." You do not need eloquence. You need clarity.
