Same Words, Different World

"Sure" can mean enthusiastic agreement or barely concealed annoyance, depending entirely on how you say it. "That's nice" can be a warm compliment or cutting sarcasm with the very same words.

Written English is even trickier because tone is invisible. You lose voice, face, and pauses, so punctuation does the work instead.
