Phrases for Tough Situations

Some work situations need careful wording. Pre-written templates save you from sending emotional, regrettable emails in the heat of the moment:

  • Disagreeing with a boss: "I see the logic in that approach. I'd also like to explore an alternative…"
  • Declining a request: "I appreciate you thinking of me. Unfortunately, my current workload means I can't give this the attention it deserves."
  • Chasing something overdue: "I wanted to check in on the status of…" — gentler than "You haven't sent this yet."
  • Asking for a redo: "This is a great start. Could we refine a few areas before it goes out?"
