LESSON 3 · Voice Care Essentials
When your voice is strained, follow this protocol:
- Reduce voice use immediately — speak only when necessary, at conversational volume
- Hydrate steadily — sip warm (not hot) or room-temperature water regularly
- Use humid air safely — a warm shower or room humidifier can soothe dryness; avoid leaning over boiling water or any steam setup that could burn your face or airway
- No whispering — it can strain tired folds more than gentle normal speech
Avoid lozenges with menthol or eucalyptus if they make you push past discomfort: the cooling sensation can mask pain. Honey in warm water may soothe the throat, but it is comfort care, not a repair tool for injured vocal folds.
