LESSON 3 · Voice Care Essentials

The 48-Hour Recovery Rule

Most vocal fatigue improves within 24-48 hours with proper care. If your voice has not improved noticeably within this window, treat that as a sign to keep resting instead of pushing harder. If hoarseness persists for around two weeks, or arrives with pain, breathing trouble, or swallowing trouble, it is time for professional evaluation.

During recovery, be careful with alcoholic beverages, which can dry the body and irritate recovery. Moderate caffeine does not usually cause net dehydration for regular users, though coffee can still bother some throats or reflux-prone voices. Avoid spicy food and acidic drinks that can cause reflux irritation. Do not try to "push through" with a damaged voice.
