LESSON 2 · Command Any Room
Common Microphone Mistakes
The most common mic mistake is inconsistent distance. Speakers turn their heads while talking, moving their mouth away from the mic and causing volume fluctuations. The second most common mistake is holding a handheld mic at waist level where it captures almost nothing.
Other costly errors include tapping the mic to test it, blowing into it, and popping plosive sounds like P and B too close to the capsule. Practice mic technique at home with your phone's voice recorder held at mic distance. Record yourself and listen for volume inconsistencies, pops, and breathing sounds that a real audience would hear amplified.
