LESSON 2 · The Emotional Voice

Vocal Arc of a Story

Every great story follows a vocal arc that mirrors its emotional trajectory. The opening is calm and grounding, setting the scene. As tension builds, the voice gradually increases in pace and intensity. At the climax, it reaches peak energy. Then it drops for the resolution, landing on a quiet, resonant final line.

This arc is instinctive when you tell a story you genuinely care about. The skill is bringing it into prepared narratives. Practice telling a story three times, exaggerating the arc a little more each time. Find the level where it feels dramatic but not theatrical. That is your performance sweet spot.
