The Confidence Trap

We treat confidence as proof of knowledge. Someone who speaks loudly, fast, and without hedging sounds like they know things. Someone who pauses and qualifies sounds unsure.

Salespeople, con artists, and bad bosses live in this gap. They know most people grade an argument by how it sounds, so they perform certainty: no "maybe," no "it depends," just clean and forceful claims.
