LESSON 2 · Life's Big Crossroads
The Cooling-Off Rule
Before any purchase over a threshold you set in advance (say $500, or 1% of your income, whichever is higher), wait. Not because you cannot afford it — because the first rush of wanting needs time to drain off so you can judge the thing from a calm place.
The pattern is reliable. A big purchase feels like a must-have for a day or two, then the urgency quietly collapses. The items that still feel worth it after the wait are usually the ones that genuinely belong in your life. This one habit protects your money better than any budgeting app, because it works at the exact moment bad decisions get made.
