LESSON 2 · Your Emotional Operating System

Expanding Your Vocabulary

Most adults reach for only a handful of emotion words. English actually holds hundreds of them. The gap costs you — a wine expert distinguishes hundreds of flavors because vocabulary makes the differences visible.

Envy wants what someone has; jealousy fears losing what you have. Guilt says "I did bad"; shame says "I am bad." Frustration signals a blocked goal; resentment signals ongoing unfairness. Each distinction opens a different path to resolution.
