LESSON 2 · Your Emotional Operating System

Beyond Individual Emotions

Naming emotions transforms not just your inner life but your relationships. When you say "I feel hurt because my effort went unacknowledged" instead of slamming a door, you give the other person something to work with. Conflict becomes communication.

Research on couples shows that partners with a richer emotional vocabulary resolve disagreements faster and report greater satisfaction. They argue less — not because they feel less, but because they name feelings with precision instead of aggression.

The same holds at work. Leaders who name team emotions build trust faster than those who ignore them. Naming is not weakness — it is emotional leadership.
