LESSON 3 · Your Emotional Operating System

Common Trigger Categories

Triggers cluster around core emotional wounds. Knowing your category helps you predict and prepare.

Rejection triggers fire when you perceive exclusion — left out of a group chat, sensing disapproval, being overlooked. Control triggers activate when you feel powerless — sudden plan changes, being told what to do, losing autonomy.

Fairness triggers ignite at injustice — someone cutting in line, credit stolen for your work, rules applied unequally. Inadequacy triggers activate when you feel exposed as not good enough — public mistakes, unfavorable comparisons, criticism.

Most people have one or two dominant categories behind their strongest reactions.
