LESSON 4 · Tame the Anxiety Monster

Building a Breathing Practice

These techniques only work if you practice them before you need them. Learning box breathing during a panic attack is like learning to swim while drowning.

Morning anchor: two minutes of extended exhale breathing before you check your phone, to set the day's baseline.

Transition breathing: 4-6 diaphragmatic breaths between activities — after parking, before a meeting, between tasks — so stress does not pile up.

Evening wind-down: five minutes of slow breathing before bed improves both how fast you fall asleep and how well you sleep.

Daily practitioners report less anxiety, better focus, and a greater sense of control over their inner state.
