LESSON 2 · Why You Are the Way You Are

Secure Attachment

About 55% of adults have a secure attachment style. They are comfortable with both intimacy and independence: they state needs clearly, respond to a partner's needs with empathy, and handle conflict without spiraling.

Secure attachment develops when caregivers are consistently responsive. The child learns, "When I express a need, someone shows up." That builds an internal model of relationships as safe and reliable.

As adults, securely attached people trust without constant jealousy, treat disagreements as problems rather than threats, and feel at ease both close and alone. It is not perfection — it is a solid foundation for the inevitable difficulties of intimacy.
