LESSON 3 · Why You Are the Way You Are

The Five Languages

  • Words of Affirmation. Verbal expressions — "I'm proud of you," "You look amazing." Compliments aren't nice extras; they're essential.
  • Acts of Service. Doing the dishes, filling the car, handling a dreaded task says: "I see your burden and want to lighten it."
  • Receiving Gifts. Not materialism. A thoughtful present says: "You were on my mind." The value is in the thought.
  • Quality Time. Undivided attention — no phones, no multitasking. A distracted dinner feels like rejection.
  • Physical Touch. Holding hands, hugging, a hand on the shoulder communicates safety. Lack of it creates distance regardless of what you say.
