LESSON 1 · Burnout: Recognize, Recover, Prevent
Taking It Seriously
Burnout is not a badge of honor. It is a serious occupational health concern associated with depression, anxiety, sleep problems, substance use, and physical health strain.
The stigma keeps people suffering in silence, because admitting burnout can feel like admitting failure. But it is rarely just personal weakness — it is often systemic: unreasonable workloads, toxic management, too few resources.
Three immediate steps if this describes you:
- Acknowledge it honestly. Stop telling yourself you just need a vacation.
- Talk to someone — a friend, therapist, or doctor.
- Identify the main mismatch and target that root cause.
