LESSON 4 · Burnout: Recognize, Recover, Prevent

The Recovery Rhythm

Burnout-proof living requires rhythmic recovery — cycles of exertion and rest at multiple time scales.

Daily: At least one hour of genuine leisure. Active engagement in something you enjoy, not passive screen time.

Weekly: Protect one full day for non-work activities.

Quarterly: A longer break every few months — at minimum a long weekend fully unplugged. This stops slow fatigue from piling up.

Annual: 2+ weeks off lets your nervous system fully reset.

Recovery must be proportional to exertion. Intense work requires intense rest — the simplest prevention available.
