LESSON 2 · What Actually Drives You
Flow Blockers
Understanding what prevents flow matters as much as knowing what triggers it.
Multitasking. Flow requires singular focus, and every interruption resets engagement. Research suggests it can take around 23 minutes to fully re-engage. With constant distractions, flow never has time to develop.
Perfectionism. The inner critic works against the reduced self-monitoring often associated with flow. Constant evaluation keeps attention on judging yourself instead of staying absorbed in the task.
Low stakes. If you do not care about the outcome, your brain will not invest the attention flow demands. Flow needs genuine meaning.
