LESSON 2 · Escape Toxic Patterns

Reclaiming Yourself

The deepest work is rediscovering who you are outside your relationships. Codependent people often have no clear sense of identity — their preferences set aside so long that they no longer know what they want.

This is both terrifying and freeing. Terrifying because, without the helper role, you face the emptiness you have been avoiding.

Start with small experiments. What food do you actually like? What would you do with a free Saturday if nobody needed anything?

Group therapy with other codependents helps. Hearing others name your exact pattern makes it impossible to deny.

You are allowed to have needs and say no, and to be loved for who you are.
