LESSON 3 · Escape Toxic Patterns

The Ongoing Practice

Boundary-setting is not a one-time event — it requires maintenance and adjustment.

Start small. Set your first boundaries in low-stakes situations, like declining an invitation or asking for a different table.

Expect discomfort. If you grew up without boundaries, they will feel wrong for a while. The guilt and anxiety do not mean the boundary is wrong — they mean it is new.

Review regularly. Are your current boundaries being respected? Do you need new ones? Have old ones become unnecessary?

Celebrate enforcement. Every time you hold a boundary, treat it as a win. The more you do, the more natural it becomes.

Boundaries are the infrastructure of a life on your own terms.
