The Apology Languages
Just as people have different love languages, they have different apology languages. Some need to hear "I'm sorry." Others need changed behavior. Some need their pain acknowledged; others need to know what will be different going forward.
If your apology style doesn't match your partner's, genuine repair attempts land flat. You say sorry — but they wanted you to name exactly what you did wrong.
Ask directly: "When I've hurt you, what does a real apology look like to you?" Their answer turns apologies from frustrating misfires into genuine healing.
