LESSON 4 · Keep the Fire Alive

When a Night Is Impossible

Some weeks a real night out just will not happen. The instinct is to skip it and wait for a calmer week, but that calmer week rarely comes.

The fix is the mini-date: a small, protected pocket of connection that still counts. Twenty minutes of coffee on the porch after the kids are down, a short walk around the block, or breakfast out before work. The point is to protect the ritual, not the production. A consistent small date beats a perfect one you keep postponing.
