LESSON 3 · The Art of Attraction

Keeping Mystery Alive

Long-term couples often assume they know everything about each other. This assumption kills curiosity, and curiosity is the engine of flirting. You cannot flirt with someone you have reduced to a fully predictable routine.

The solution is intentional mystery. Pursue interests your partner knows little about. Share new discoveries rather than only discussing logistics. Ask questions you have never asked before, even after years together.

Desire requires a gap between partners. You need enough separateness to maintain interest in bridging the distance. Couples who maintain individual growth consistently report higher mutual attraction than those who merge into a single identity.
