Communicating Self-Care Needs

Telling your partner you need alone time, a night with friends, or time to pursue a hobby can feel like rejection. Frame it correctly: "I need this so I can show up better for us" removes the sting.

Guilt about self-care is common, especially for parents and women. But guilt is not a reliable guide. If an hour of exercise makes you more patient and kind for the remaining 23 hours, that hour is a relationship investment, not a withdrawal.
